Probable diseases/ damages by Insects/ suggested remedies | • Damages by plasispa will take place. 3 ml of Marshal 20 dissolved in 1 litre of water can be sprayed as a remedy. The spray must penetrate the fronds. This has to be done once in two weeks till the plasispa damage is over. • At this time black beetles too start to damage the plants. Those will damage the shoot affecting the growth and blossoming. In the places of damage the the pieces of tissues could be seen. This will result in shoot or the bottom of the trunk getting fallen down. • Applying tar on the trunks, frequent inspection of trees, clean environment, injecting monocrotopos and using permones are treated as remedies. |

Points to take care and pay attention
Point/ deficiency | Reason/ Reasons | Suggested remedies |
Rotting of the tree | payitoptherapalmvora fungus ( will affect trees in the age group of 5 to 45) | Washing the shoot to get properly soaked in Metalaksis 4 gms dissolved in i litre of water once in 2 weeks |
oozing sap from the trunk | ceratocistis paradoxa fungus | The parts affected to be cut off using a shrp equipment. A blight remover containing copper and metalaksis could be used. |
yellowing of leaves | deficiency of nitrogen/ magnesium/ pottasium too bright sunlight/ insufficient water/ excessive water | urea, kisaraite, murate of potash could be used according to the defficiency |
rotting of leaves | Due to a blight spots will appear on the leaves. These become bigger and the leaves start to rot. | cutting of the shoot of the affected trees and burning |
withering of leaves | this is known as weligama withering too. This causes by payitoplasma | cutting off the trees at the ground level and burning off the shoots |
Special notes:
1.) Though a coconut is kept in the nursery for 7 months, the age is computed from zero (0) counting at the time of planting. One year will be from the day of planting and NOT from the date of nursing.
2.) Water must be adequately supplied. 10-15 litres must be used for small plants – the plants till 4 years, per day. Beyond 5 year trees need 40-60 litres per day. Water to be supplied accordingly
