A series of programs carried out in Anuradhapura to expand the good hands concept of “Let’s make a coconut plant from a coconut seed nursery”

With the dawn of the new year 2022, good hands activism is fortunate to launch another series of Corporate social responsibility Projects. A series of programs were launched to our friends living in several villages in the Anuradhapura District who responded to the Facebook page last year with an interest in coconut cultivation. More than 35 families in the district were initially involved in this.

In early January, programs were implemented in remote villages around Thalawa, Galkulama, Sravasthipura, Anuradhapura town, Pandulagama, Hidogama and Asokaramaya. We were able to successfully complete the coconut seedling nursery project, which was carried out in a few days, amidst the enthusiasm and support of the villagers.

In addition to providing free seed and establishing nurseries, the good hands staff discussed issues raised by the villagers related to coconut cultivation as well as awareness on practical practices. At the same time, the Good Hands handbook was provided with the aim of advancing the concepts of our project.

During the activities in Anuradhapura, we were able to carry out several coconut seedling nursery and planting programs at the adjacent police stations in each area. Our concept was extended to the Anuradhapura, Kawarakkulama, Tamuttegama and Thalawa police stations to the praise of the OICs in charge of the police stations.

The GHI team emphasized its main objective is not to distribute coconut plants or seed coconuts; but to encourage and motivate the Sri Lankans to cultivate at least one coconut plant, by obtaining the same through nursing a seed coconut.
